I have been searching for a reliable knife then when I discovered this product made by Gerber and contains Bear Grylls name on it I knew that this should be good. From the name itself I was confident that this knife would help me when faced with unwanted or odd circumstances. It may not have pleased everyone based on other reviews that I've come across, however, if you ask me I consider it as one of the greatest camping gadgets on my list.
One important thing that you need to consider in a knife is that it should be sturdy and won't slip or cut through things which you don't want it to cut, much like your hand. With the Bear Grylls rubber grip and oversized finger notch in handle, you are at ease finding that it won't just simply slip off from your grasp.
Another thing that you'll want to look at will be the blade itself and I can let you know that the blade on this thing is sharp. It features a serrated high carbon stainless steel drop point blade that calls for less work when cutting through ropes. It also has a straight edge that's suitable for cutting and slicing. The stainless steel pommel in the base of the handle can be used in pounding nails this also would come useful if perhaps you left your hammer at your house.
The Bear Grylls Survival Knife comes with a whistle integrated into the lanyard cord and this would be invaluable in instances where you get lost.
An additional camping essential that's bundled in this great multi-purpose device is a fire starter kit. It's a Ferrocerium fire starter rod locked into the sheath and also the striker notch included in the rear of knife blade which can be used if your lighter got misplaced.
Other stuff included in this gear are the mildew resistant nylon sheath, land to air rescue information, pocket guide that contains Bear's survival essentials and a diamond sharpener for on-the-go sharpening.
To sum it up, I can say that the Bear Grylls Survival Knife is the ultimate knife in the wild and is also definitely useful. Furthermore, it offers an individual two necessary edges needed in survival--- the edge of a sharp cutting blade as well as a survivor edge or advantage over unwanted instances.
