Patterns And Tones Must Be Chosen Carefully Prior To When You Begin Stitching Your Quilt
Good-quality cloth for the quilter is highly desirable, because when it comes to quilting, quality really is important when choosing materials.
With better quality quilting fabric, including colorfast fabric, you’re less likely to run into difficulties. If you start a project with fabric that’s of dubious grade, you’re likely going to regret your choice once you get further along with your sewing, and then it’s too late to switch.
One of the better choices for the backing and top of the quilt is 100 percent cotton because it’s uncomplicated to cut, iron and stitch, and you can find it everywhere. Man-made fabrics usually gather when sewn into a quilt, and their complete appearance can become quite shabby.
For quilting fabric, turn to colors that are all related by temperature, and avoid pairing up tones that don’t sit together very well, such as green and red. Fabric by the yard comes in any number of colors, but limit the range of hues you choose and don’t feel that you necessarily have to choose a little bit of everything. You’ll want to pair colors according to the “temperature,” which suggests that you keep breezy tones, such as off-white, turquoise and purple in close range, as you would with darker or more earthy tones.
The hassle with making color choices frequently is that some colors can appear light in tone when looked at alone, but the same color looks dark when it’s positioned next to another color.
